Atkins and Diabetes

April 26, 2008

The Atkins diet principles lay the foundation for a healthy, more balanced way of eating than the standard American diet. Its emphasis is on using good carbohydrates in balance with adequate protein. This is in stark contrast to what most Americans eat on a daily basis. The average American eats lots of processed foods that have hidden sugars and highly processed carbohydrates. This has put most Americans on the road to diabetes and pre-diabetic conditions. What is sad is that diabetes has a predictable set of stages and that they can be easily recognized.

Atkins and Intestinal Problems

April 25, 2008

The major complaint of those who use the Atkins diet is the intestinal problems that are associated with reducing carbohydrates. These problems can include constipation and diarrhea. These symptoms can happen to anybody at some point, but those who follow a low-carb diet are especially prone.

Most commonly dieters will experience diarrhea during the early days of induction. This is a result of the body getting rid of excess carbohydrates. It also marks the beginning of the ketosis process. So in actuality, experiencing diarrhea at the beginning of the diet is a good thing. It indicates that you are on the road to becoming a fat burning machine.

Cholesterol is one of the major substances that cause heart attacks, high blood cholesterol levels, and weight problems. Despite its “bad guy image,” this waxy, fat-like substances made in the body by the person’s own liver serves a number of vital functions unknown to many.

Dieting Effects - Fruits

April 25, 2008

Everyone knows that introducing healthier foods into their diet is a good idea. Fruits and vegetables are really what they are talking about. Of course, there are probably lots of foods that can be eliminated to have a healthier body.

Fruits are defined as the fleshy seed-bearing part of the plant that we all get to enjoy. Vegetables are plant parts that we eat, so technically all fruits are also vegetables.

The good thing about fruits is that we get to eat them. The recommended amount of fruit for your day is five to nine pieces. Fruit can make the best breakfast. It’s light, full of energy and nutrients, and very tasty. Fruit hydrates the body and helps the diet levels.

Sugar and the pH miracle diet

April 25, 2008

The pH diet stresses a balanced approach to eating. By limiting the intake of acidic foods and increasing the intake of alkaline foods one can achieve optimum health. One of the main factors in the fight against acidic pH levels is sugar. Sugar is an epidemic in our modern world. The average American consumes 2 to 3 pounds of sugar each week, that translates to over 135 pounds of sugar per person per year. This alarming number is attributed to the wide popularity of sugar as an additive. Sugar is in everything, hiding in various forms. Sucrose, dextrose, and high fructose corn syrups are active ingredient in all processed food and condiments. These highly refined sweeteners leave a bitter taste in the mouths of those who are starting out on the pH diet due to their universal acceptance as a “necessary evil’

Take time to declutter this summer…

Writing can certainly consume the better part of your day… Especially when you consider all the other responsibilities most of us take on each day.

Sometimes you can overlook the benefits of cleaning up your work area. If you’re like me, you may put off rather mundane tasks like - reading and actually responding to email messages, sorting through snail mail, paying bills, going through files etc…

Although these tasks are definitely time-consuming and usually uninspiring, you may be surprised how much better you’ll feel if you clean house!

Reach Your Goals - Have a therapeutic meltdown

April 24, 2008

It’s crunch time: you’re two days behind and the deadline’s looming, your dog just ate your last clean hard copy of that oh-so-vital data and the helpful people at your computer company’s customer service seem to have left the building - while you’re stuck on hold looking at the “blue screen of death.” Time to lose it - constructively.

Great Ideas And Radical Or Disruptive Innovation

April 24, 2008

Creativity can be defined as problem identification and idea generation whilst innovation can be defined as idea selection, development and commercialisation.

There are other useful definitions in this field, for example, creativity can be defined as consisting of a number of ideas, a number of diverse ideas and a number of novel ideas.

There are distinct processes that enhance problem identification and idea generation and, similarly, distinct processes that enhance idea selection, development and commercialisation. Whilst there is no sure fire route to commercial success, these processes improve the probability that good ideas will be generated and selected and that investment in developing and commercialising those ideas will not be wasted.

Control your Fear Before It Controls You

April 23, 2008

“Fear Factor” is one of my favorite TV shows. It
highlights the courage of the participants to engage in
the most fearsome and disgusting acts.

Most of the contestants are willing to sacrifice their
dignity for the sake of the prize money. So what does
that imply? It implies that with the proper mindset,
determination, and will power, you can conquer your fear.

Everyone has some sort of fear. It may be brought about
by any one or more of the following reasons.

1) by a traumatic past incident (like being bitten by a
dog)
2) by the influence of other people
3) by their own negative way of thinking
